Over the course of two days, the future of Portugal’s space sector took centre stage at the FEUP - Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, bringing together universities, students, companies, and institutions linked to research and Defence for a shared debate: the current state of aerospace education in the country and its potential to shape the national industry over the next decade.
The stage for this gathering was the 1st edition of the Space Education Summit – organised by New Space Portugal and the working group that brings together the country’s universities offering education in this field. The event featured contributions from institutions such as the Portuguese Air Force and the Portuguese Space Agency, and culminated in an inspiring keynote by John Wensveen, President of the International Space University. The closing remarks were delivered by Ana Paiva, Secretary of State for Science, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a space sector that creates visibility and opportunities for national talent.
Running in parallel, an exhibition fair was held, led by student engineering groups from universities across the country, alongside organisations consistently investing in the next generation, such as CEiiA and its SLI – Sustainable Living Innovators programme, which has just opened applications for this year’s edition under the theme: “From the Moon to Earth – How can technologies for lunar exploration improve life on our planet?”
