Developed entirely in-house by Colab +ATLANTIC, Atlantic SENSE is a Geospatial Information Tool for Climate Resilience and Environmental Monitoring, delivered as part of the New Space Portugal Agenda.
At a time when environmental data from satellites, sensors, and models is abundant, turning it into clear, actionable, local insights remains a challenge. Atlantic SENSE addresses this by translating cutting-edge scientific data into meaningful, real-time indicators that support climate risk management, territorial planning and public awareness.
The platform integrates several key environmental domains:
• OCEAN: Marine heatwave forecasts and biogeochemical indicators of ocean health.
• AIR: Temperature extremes, urban heat island effects, air quality and health indicators.
• LAND: Land use and cover change, with links to ecosystem services.
• COAST: Coastal erosion monitoring and future sea level rise scenarios.
Currently being piloted across mainland Portugal, Atlantic SENSE contributes to major European and national initiatives such as Horizon Europe, Destination Earth, and the EU Digital Twin Ocean, positioning Portugal within these critical digital ecosystems.
Atlantic SENSE is, also, officially recognised under the UN Ocean Decade, a testament to its relevance for sustainable ocean and climate futures.
