With the publication of the Earth Observation Guide – developed by VdA, GEOSAT, Nova SBE – School of Business and Economics and CoLab +Atlantic – the WP8 of the New Space Portugal Agenda is thus complete.
This Guide aims to help organisations effectively navigate the intricate landscape of market, business, technical, legal and regulatory opportunities and challenges associated with Earth Observation (EO) and the use of EO data and services.
Covering the entire EO lifecycle, the Guide offers in-depth insights, from satellite development and operation to the dissemination and use of data and value-added services (VAS). It is aimed at space sector entities (operators, manufacturers, integrators, suppliers and VAS providers) as well as end users in various market sectors.
Key topics include the following:
• Market opportunities and the fastest-growing sectors;
• Technical requirements and business models in EO;
• Funding sources and key compliance obligations;
• Critical contractual aspects in the EO value chain.
The Guide intends to bolster Portugal’s space ecosystem by promoting a better understanding of the impact of satellite imagery on the economy and society at large.

“A importância do Espaço” foi tema em destaque no programa Sociedade Civil, da RTP2, que contou com a participação de quatro organizações que integram a Agenda New Space Portugal: GEOSAT, CEiiA, Omnidea e N3O.
Durante a conversa, discutiu-se o desenvolvimento que o setor espacial português está a viver e a capacidade de atrair e reter talento para os projetos inovadores em curso. Projetos que, ao longo da próxima década, ambicionam posicionar o País como uma nação espacial, promovendo a tecnologia desenvolvida em Portugal nos mercados globais de Sustentabilidade, Segurança e Defesa.
Também se abordou a necessidade de mecanismos de investimento eficazes que permitam ao País consolidar uma ‘economia do novo espaço’, reforçando a importância desta aposta num setor tão estratégico como o setor espacial, atualmente em aceleradíssimo crescimento a nível mundial.
