VdA shortlisted for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe

VdA - Vieira de Almeida – leader of WP9 of the New Space Portugal Agenda – has been shortlisted for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2026 in the Innovative Lawyers in AI, Digital Regulation and Technology category, in recognition of the work carried out within the framework of this Agenda.
This international recognition, of which we are immensely proud, acknowledges the pioneering Earth Observation research project developed by VdA in collaboration with GEOSAT, Nova SBE - School of Business and Economics and CoLAB +ATLANTIC. The project brought together legal, technological and economic expertise, contributing to a deeper understanding of the regulatory, data and complex systems challenges associated with the space sector.
The nomination also reinforces the importance of the NEW SPACE PORTUGAL Agenda as a platform for innovation, demonstrating how collaboration between industry, academia and experts from different disciplines is essential to accelerating the development of the space economy.
The project combined legal, technical, economic, market and public policy analysis to support the development of new services, business models and markets based on space-derived data.
Congratulations to VdA and to all the partners involved in this working group. We wish them every success at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2026 ceremony, which will take place in London this September.

“A importância do Espaço” foi tema em destaque no programa Sociedade Civil, da RTP2, que contou com a participação de quatro organizações que integram a Agenda New Space Portugal: GEOSAT, CEiiA, Omnidea e N3O.
Durante a conversa, discutiu-se o desenvolvimento que o setor espacial português está a viver e a capacidade de atrair e reter talento para os projetos inovadores em curso. Projetos que, ao longo da próxima década, ambicionam posicionar o País como uma nação espacial, promovendo a tecnologia desenvolvida em Portugal nos mercados globais de Sustentabilidade, Segurança e Defesa.
Também se abordou a necessidade de mecanismos de investimento eficazes que permitam ao País consolidar uma ‘economia do novo espaço’, reforçando a importância desta aposta num setor tão estratégico como o setor espacial, atualmente em aceleradíssimo crescimento a nível mundial.
